Learn about the sewing machines, including threading, winding a bobbin and some basic trouble shooting techniques.
Learn about thread types and which are used for garment sewing, crafting, buttonholes and quilting.
Learn basic seam finishes including;
Basic garment seam and basic quilting seam

Mock felt seam
Blind hem
Gathering
Centered zipper

Build a book with instructions and your samples for reference as you become more independent in your sewing skills.
Learn about fabric grain, and how to lay out a pattern.
Learn the basics on reading a pattern.

This is the bootcamp edition of learning sewing.  Weather you want to make simple projects as gifts or for yourself, this is the class for you!

This class meets 4 times on Wednesdays 6:30pm-8:30pm -

Fundamentals of Fine Garment Sewing Series

Want to take your basic sewing knowledge to the next level? Start at the beginning and work your way through the series to find sewing independence and creative freedom to sew your dreams into reality...

Part I: Basic Sewing

The Basic Sewing program emphasizes classic garment construction. Learn to sew from the beginning or fine tune your skills as you create your Basic Sewing Workbook. Studies and sewing samples will include: seams and seam finishes, darts, gathering and easing and zippers. Practice workbook techniques and learn sleeve construction, interfacings, and facings in a blouse and a shirt sample.  Students should bring a 2” 3-ring binder with 50 sheet protectors, paper and a pencil to the first class.  Some basic sewing tools are also required and will be discussed in the first class.   Fabric kit fee - $ 25


Part II: Advanced Basic Sewing
Pre-requisite:  Basic Sewing, with completed samples.

Continue to increase your sewing skills as you complete your blouse and shirt samples with collars and cuffs, and practice samples of various curved seaming methods.  Learn how to apply a waistband and invisible zipper while creating a lined skirt sample. You will also learn a few basic hand stitches as well as some hemming techniques. Fabric kit fee - $ 25

Part III: Hand Stitching & Finishing
Suggested pre-requisites: Basic Sewing, Advanced Basic Sewing with completed samples.

Finish your garments professionally. Learn many basic hand stitches and how to apply them. Practice hand-made closures including hand-stitched zippers, hand-made buttonholes and covered snaps. Learn the professional way to sew on buttons, snaps, hooks and eyes. Make perfect welt pockets and learn many uses for bias. Students should bring basic sewing tools and a notebook to class. A supply list will be given at the first class.  Fabric kit fee - $ 25

Part IV: Classic Details
Suggested pre-requisites: Basic Sewing, Advanced Basic Sewing

Continue to build your sewing skills as you learn professional sewing techniques for several neck treatments....a convertible collar, mandarin collar, wing collar, a keyhole neck facing and tiny piped edge. Also learn several sleeve and armhole treatments as well as designer hems.  Fabric kit fee - $ 25
