Quilting: Basic Free Motion Quilting

In this workshop, students will learn the two basic methods of finishing quilts on a home sewing machine, straight-line quilting with a walking foot, and free-motion quilting.

The class will cover a wealth of practical information including how to select thread color, how to make a properly-sized quilt back, how to make a stable quilt sandwich, and how to manage the weight of the quilt during quilting. We will also practice a variety of basic quilting designs.

This is an all-day class with an hour break for lunch. In the morning, we’ll cover making quilt sandwiches and straight-line quilting basics and designs. In the afternoon, we’ll cover free-motion quilting basics and designs. The goal of this class is to build confidence and quilting skills that can be applied to the students’ own quilt projects.

Please bring the following to class:
- Your machine in good working order
- Basic Sewing Supplies - thread, scissors, pins, marking utensils etc.
- A free motion foot - this is any drop foot like the #26 or the #24 (While we will speak about the BERNINA stitch regulator, it is not required that you have one.)
- Walking Foot
- Note paper and pen/pencil
